Automated External Defibrillator

Installation and Inauguration Automated External Defibrillator

The Old Boys’ Association (OBA), working closely with the management installed an Automated External Defibrillator or AED in the school premises on 21 February, 2022.

The AED has been donated by the Reggie Sreshta Charity Healthcare Education Foundation and installed in memory of Brother Calligaro SJ, is not only the first of its kind to be installed in any school in Bangalore but is more importantly a life-saving electronic device that can automatically diagnose life threatening cardiac abnormalities and treat the patient through defibrillation.

The installation programme was attended by the Principal of SJBHS, Fr Sunil Fernandes SJ; the President of the OBA, Dr Praveen Rodrigues; Secretary of the OBA, K T Lazar; Mr. Joseph Pasangha, Director Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospitals; and Dr Srinath from Emergency medicine, Narayana Health City. Other OBA members and SJBHS faculty were also part of the inauguration ceremony. While Dr Srinath elucidated the importance of AED, Dr Rodrigues explained why the installation was in memory of Br. Calligaro, a Jesuit brother who was in charge of the school infirmary for forty long years. A fitting homage to the kind and compassionate Br. Calligaro who is fondly remembered by the OBA!

The working of the AED was demonstrated by trained personnel and then the device was installed in a case, strategically placed for easy access during an emergency.
