5th June, 2025
“Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
This spirit echoed through the vibrant celebration of World Environment Day 2025 at St. Joseph’s Boys’ High School on 5th June, 2025. With this year’s global theme— “Ending Plastic Pollution”—students and staff came together in an inspiring show of awareness, creativity, and commitment to a greener future.
The morning began on a reflective note as the school community gathered to welcome the dignitaries, including Mr. Naveen Kumar, the Chief Guest, whose presence brought immense inspiration. A successful entrepreneur and sustainable farming advocate, Mr. Kumar exemplifies the balance between modern innovation and ecological responsibility.
A heartfelt prayer for the Earth called upon all present to reflect on humanity’s responsibility as stewards of nature. This was followed by a soulful rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Earth Song,” performed by the school choir. The performance stirred the audience with its emotional appeal to protect our planet.
One of the highlights of the event was a powerful and imaginative student skit titled “Plastic Panic!” The performance creatively portrayed how everyday plastic use contributes to a growing environmental crisis. Featuring characters like a “Plastic Monster” and an eccentric Professor Green, the skit used humor and dramatization to deliver a serious message: It’s time to change our habits before plastic takes over our lives—and our ecosystems.
Following the performance, Mr. Naveen Kumar addressed the gathering. Drawing from his journey as both an engineer and a natural farmer, he spoke passionately about conscious living, eco-friendly alternatives, and the need to reconnect with sustainable practices. His message resonated deeply with both students and staff.
To mark the occasion, the Chief Guest was felicitated with a sapling and a memento—symbolic of growth, renewal, and the hope for a cleaner tomorrow. This was followed by a pledge ceremony, where students collectively committed to reducing plastic use, embracing reusables, and inspiring change in their communities.
In a meaningful conclusion to the event, saplings of medicinal plants - lemongrass, basil, and aloe vera were planted on campus. These plants not only reflect the school’s commitment to biodiversity but were also nurtured using compost made from dry leaves collected on-site—showcasing the school’s eco-initiatives in action.
A Lasting Impact
World Environment Day 2025 was more than just a school event—it was a call to action. From creative performances to hands-on initiatives, the day reinforced the message that small actions, when taken together, lead to meaningful change. At St. Joseph’s, the seeds of awareness have been sown—and with care, they will surely grow into a greener, more responsible tomorrow.
