Basic Skills can Help Save a Life
Today, more than ever, being equipped with basic life-saving skills is not only the need of the
hour but also a stipulation in case of emergencies that have become so commonplace,
especially post-pandemic. The Management, in collaboration with the Reggie Shreshta
Healthcare Charitable Foundation, with the help of the doctors from the Society for
Emergency Medicine in India, Karnataka Chapter, organized a BLS training session for the
students of the Std 12 on the 21 st of August, 2025. The students went home equipped with
skills that they had only heard about and had seen on screen. They were the latest batch of
certified ‘Life Saving Ambassadors’ to be trained at SJBHS.
The resource persons led by Dr T S Srinath and team enlightened the students on the six steps
of the C-A-B technique of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), the head tilt and chin lift
as well as the recovery pose and the use of AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Through
power point presentations, re-enactment of emergency scenarios and demonstrations done on
mannequins, the students had practice sessions, till they perfected the techniques. The ‘Chain
of Survival’ was emphasized to show the steps to be taken in case of a cardiac arrest
emergency - after all, the golden hour after a cardiac arrest could save the life of a bystander,
a friend, a relative or a loved one.
country.
The two-hour session ended on a note of accomplishment for the young students; a note of
satisfaction for the staff; and a note of high praise for the staff coordinators who had
conceived the idea of adding this skill to the all-round development of a Josephite.
